Resurfacing Works on Knockanrawley Road

Resurfacing works will take place on Knockanrawley Road, Tipperary Town on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th June. A “Stop / Go” system will be in place for the duration of these works.

Temporary One-way Traffic System

The Contractor is currently preparing to commence online roadworks on Fr Mathew Street between the Bansha Road roundabout and the junction with Knockanrawley Road. In order to facilitate these works the Contractor is putting a one-way temporary traffic management system into place between the Bansha Road roundabout and the junction with the Knockanrawley Road.  The one-way system entails:

  • As at present, all traffic travelling from Tipperary town towards Cashel will continue to travel along Fr. Mathew Street within a single lane.
  • All traffic approaching Tipperary town from the Cashel direction will be diverted to travel to the Bansha Road by turning left, after St. Michael’s Cemetery, onto the Knockanrawley Road
  • Alternative parking areas for residents, affected by the works, will be provided and will be advised as the works progress.

It is envisaged that this one-way system will be put in place from the 17th of June 2024 and will be in operation for approximately 8 months. The benefits to the public of the one-way system are:

  • Vehicular traffic will be free-flowing and will not be subjected to temporary traffic lights or Stop/Go traffic operation on Fr Mathew Street, while this section of the works is being completed.
  • Traffic delays will be minimised to give the public surety of travel times.
  • The single lane system on Fr Mathew Street will reduce crossing distances for pedestrians and residents accessing their properties.
  • Current permanent traffic calming arrangements will continue to assist with keeping traffic speeds on the Knockanrawley Road to a minimum while the one-way system is in operation with additional mobile speed radar signs introduced. These traffic claming measures will be monitored as the works progress with the aid of the Gardai.

Please note that works of this nature will cause some disruption, but it is the Council’s and the Contractor’s intention to minimise this as far as possible. The Contractor will continue to contact stakeholders and the public in advance with leaflet drops, through the Whatsapp group and the scheme website as the scheme progresses. Please see a letter drop below with accompanying sketch of the temporary traffic diversion route.
