Scheme Overview
Tipperary County Council has appointed GLAS Civil Engineering Limited to carry out a road pavement rehabilitation scheme which also incorporates safety improvement measures.
This scheme is approximately 1250m in length and extends along the N74 through Fr Mathew Street in Tipperary Town. It commences at the Bansha roundabout, including a short section of the N24, and terminates in the vicinity of the 60kph Speed Limit at the eastern side of the town.
News

Traffic Management for the remainder of the project
- 7th April to 30th May: 1-way system on Fr Mathew Street to remain in place.
- 7th to 17th April: 3-way temporary traffic lights in the vicinity of the Knockanrawley Road Junction to allow remaining kerbs/footpaths/services to be completed in this area on the LHS.
- 18th to 27th April: site closed for the Easter holidays with no traffic lights in place.
- 28th April to 30th May: remaining kerbs / footpaths will be completed in the area around and between the 2 entrance roads to St. Michael’s Avenue with restricted lane widths.
- 28th April to 30th May for ROADWORKS:
- 28th April to 30th May: 24/7 HGV diversion away from Fr Mathew Street to allow excavation/surfacing works to be carried out safely for all concerned.
- 30th April to 2nd May: local traffic diversions between 20.00hrs and 07.00hrs to allow surfacing works take place at nighttime from the Lidl store entrance, through the Bansha Road Roundabout and up to the Dundrum Road Junction.
- 6th to 30th May: the remainder of the excavation / surfacing roadworks from the eastern side of the Dundrum Junction to the Cashel end of the works will take place in 3 phases during normal daytime hours, alternating between phases:
- Phase 1 = Eastern side of Dundrum Junction up to Knockanrawley Junction = single traffic lane will be maintained for cars only while we dig the existing road to level and resurface it. Local Stop / Go will be in place during the works. Works will be done on the LHS followed by the RHS.
- Phase 2 = start of graveyard out to Cashel end of the works = single traffic will be maintained for cars only with traffic controlled by temporary traffic lights while we mill out and resurface the road. Works will alternate between left and right.
- Phase 3 = the Knockanrawley Road Junction will be completed last under 3-way traffic lights while we mill out and resurface the junction. Single traffic will be maintained for cars only.
6. All other works will be carried out under a temporary traffic light system.
